Why she was abandoned:

Pneumonia killed her mistress (acting mother) Sarah Darwin, while Bonnie had been trying to convince Sarah to go visit the hospital. Bonnie had been trying fervently to get Sarah to go, but Sarah thought it was just a common illness and wanted to beat it herself. During her final hours Bonnie was dragging her to the hospital and her body went limp, her once firm grip was loosened and Sarah was no longer with her. A funeral was arranged and Bonnie attend, saying goodbye to the horse mistress forever. With Sarah Darwin's death her farm was deserted, all the animals were sent to other farms and Bonnie, being unwanted by the farmers since her lack of spirit (she was really depressed and people thought she was a lame horse) she was sent to Animal Kennel where she instantly perked up, meeting new people. 

*She calls Sarah Darwin “Mistress” because that was her title, horse mistress (someone who has horses and trains hem, understanding them)

    Bonnie was born on Sarah's friend's farm while she was looking after her friend's horses since they were on a trip. Sarah asked if she could keep Bonnie since she had gotten attached to her and they said it would be ok. Bonnie's only stayed for a short time and then headed back to Oklahoma from the Appalachian Mountains. A few years later Roxanne was born up on the mountains. The owners of Roxanne had sent her parents to another farm since they were too old and then had to move to the city, leaving Roxanne with a new owner since Sarah had passed away from illness. Roxanne ran away from her new abusive owner and made her way to the Animal Kennel, where she and Bonnie met up, finding out they were sisters.

Back Story:

Bonnie was always a bit of a tomboy, always playing in trees and jumping in lakes. She disliked dresses for a while since they got in the way when playing (age five). Since the farm was small she had hardly anyone to play with, growing up as a single child. Her parents were brought over to visit once in a while, but Sarah was the one who raised her. The only friends she had were the other animals on the farm, but they couldn’t switch between forms like she could. Once she got older she was given chores and tasks to keep her busy during the day. Since she never had a formal education she grew up using the knowledge passed down to her from Sarah. At age twelve Sarah tried to get Bonnie to start wearing dresses which eventually worked after her promise of sweets if Bonnie would comply, though she still preferred shorts or pants. Around this age was when Bonnie fell out of a tree due to being frightened and hit her head hard causing her to be in a coma. A few months later she woke up only to find out her parents had been sent off to a faraway farm and that she wasn’t allowed to visit them anymore. She managed the new changes and continued on, enjoying the more frequent visits from Sarah’s brother. Once she was eighteen, life on the farm changed drastically following the death of Sarah, all the animals getting taken away while she had been forgotten about. She had become depressed and wouldn’t do anything other than stand in the dark barn. Eventually animal control was called and they took her out of the barn by force, having sent her for medical help since she had neglected her health. After she recovered she was sent to Anime Kennel.
